A statistical analysis of the most common words in the songs of Sanremo 2021 was conducted by Alessandro Amadori and Maria Cristina Pasquali. The results indicate the Country state of mind.

What Italy can you glimpse, listening to the words of the Festival? This is the question placed by Alessandro Amadori and Maria Cristina Pasquali, who –through a special textual statistical analysis program–, calculated which words occur most in the lyrics of the 26 big singers competing in Sanremo.

The results give an indirect indication of what the collective mood of Italy is today, in the midst of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

What are the most frequent words?

“Head”, “heart” and “turn” are the three most cited nouns in the 26 songs of Sanremo 2021. “Head” appears 24 times and those who use it the most are Maneskin with “Zitti e buoni”, Random with ” Torno a te ”and Veronica Lucchesi, alias La rappresentante di Lista, with “Amare ”. “Heart” is a word used 22 times, by Gaia with “Cuore Amaro” and Ermal Meta with “Un milione di cose da dirti”. “Turn” (or “this time”) appears 20 times and is used by La Rappresentante di lista with “Amare” and Max Gazzè with “Il Farmacista”.
